Why we do what we do
A Promise!
Acts 2:39
“The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
This is one of the most beautiful verses in the Bible. It is a promise that anyone, ANYONE, who calls on the Lord, in repentance for their sins (departing from God’s way) in the name of Jesus Christ, will receive forgiveness and a new start in Him! He will give His Spirit to fill and guide. We are not ashamed of this truth at Promise House, for it is our guiding principle and hope!
The name ‘Promise’ House was named after the little boy born to the first family our Director hosted in her home. His momma named him Promise and we knew God was confirming this ministry with his birth. God reaches out, wherever we are, and offers us a promise of faith, hope and love, if we are willing to trust Him.
Though everyone is at different starting points with their relationship with God, Promise House is a place where that relationship can be explored without judgment. We seek to mentor young moms through the crisis they are experiencing while at the same time give them tools to be successful when they leave us. We encourage our moms to attend parenting, home, financial management, and job skills classes, along with building spiritual growth and community resources.
The reason we do all of this is because we feel strongly that this is God’s heart, and every believer needs to be involved in his or her community showing God’s love and compassion because of what Jesus has done for us. Some give financially, some renovate homes, and some are the day-to-day hands and feet that cook, hold babies, or comfort a weary soul. Whatever your part, we encourage you to do it as to the Lord, with all your ability. We are not looking for any outcome from this ministry, though we know there will be, God has promised that! We pray all the glory goes to Him!
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
