OUR TEACHING TEAM: We believe everyone has been given different gifts and talents. Some are leaders, others are shepherds, entrepreneurs, encouragers, or musicians. We do not want to highlight only certain abilities, but rather give space for all of them to be shared in the church—which is one reason why we don’t only have one teacher for our worship gatherings, but many whom God has given a gift of teaching.

Meet Our Teaching Team

We have a group of teachers made up of both vocational pastors (staff members) and lay leaders (non-staff members). Being on the journey together means that, when we have teachers among us, we encourage and help them to share what God is teaching them with the rest of our church. Here are our teachers:

Ted Gatlin

Sunday Morning Teacher

Ted Gatlin is a husband, dad, and a simple guy originally from Arkansas. He retired from the US Air Force, and he and his family decided to make Beavercreek their long-term home. He found his way back onto the base as a civilian program manager shaping the future budget of the Air Force. He loves to ride his bike, watch movies/sports, and play with the kids. Just in case you didn’t notice, He’s married to a great Children’s Pastor named Kristi.

Ed Green

Pastor of Equipping & Care

Ed and his wife Sally moved here from central Illinois in late 2017 to serve with us. They are “empty nesters” with two adult children. Their son Samuel and his wife Mykenzie serve with a church in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, and their daughter Anna currently lives and works in Joplin, Missouri. Ed coordinates our teaching and training opportunities for adults, as well as overseeing ministries that help provide care and nurture for folks who call BCC “home.” His spiritual gifts are teaching and serving, and for those who care about such things, he is a Nine on the enneagram. Ed loves to be outside, fish, and hike, but he also tends to be kind of a sci-fi nerd. He has an almost insatiable sweet tooth and Double-Stuffed Oreos are his kryptonite.

Stew Sheckler

Sunday Morning Teacher

Until recently Stew served on staff with BCC, but recently took a position with the Dayton Job Corps teaching computer repair. He’s usually pretty cool, that is when he's not nerding out over comic books or some weird Lord of the rings reference that no one gets. He is honored to be married to to his wife Dawn, and they have two daughters, Madison (husband Ryan) and Abbi. Stew's heart is to see people discipled like Jesus discipled his first followers. That isn’t always an easy task, so when you need a hand or someone just to encourage you in what God is doing through you, Stew will try to be there and help you out.

Jon Schaadt

Lead Pastor

Jon just joined our staff team as lead pastor and will serve as a part of our teaching team. His passion for investing in the lives of people seeking God has never been stronger. In a casual, bold & fresh approach, he revels in helping people gain clarity about who Jesus is and how their lives intersect with His story of redemption and restoration in a broken world.

On a lighter note: he values finding moments for personal recharge, so when he's not sipping coffee, reading a book, slinging at disc golf, or cooking dinner, you can find him on an adventure with his wife Amber, or singing Disney songs at the top of his lungs with their three daughters.

Kevin Beavon

Elder and Sunday Morning Teacher

Kevin and his wife Tonya were high school sweethearts who married in 1993. They have two children, Dr. Jenna Mooney and Jacob Beavon. Jenna is a chiropractor, and Jacob is pursuing his master’s degree in physics at Bowling Green State University. They also are grandparents to one granddaughter, Nora. Kevin and Tonya live in Kettering and have attended BCC since 2012.

Kevin was a retail manager with Family Christian Stores until 2016 when he left to start a non-profit organization called LoveMonkey Ministries (now called NeighborLink Miami Valley.) Kevin currently serves as the chairman of the board of directors for NeighborLink Miami Valley, while continuing to work in retail and as a caregiver to his granddaughter. Tonya has a master’s degree in Health Administration and is a pediatric nurse at Dayton Children’s hospital and at Kettering City Schools.

Kevin is passionate about local and international missions. He has served BCC in multiple missions efforts including NeighborLink, Operation Christmas Child, and as the team leader for the annual World Vision 6K for Water. He has also served on the BCC missions and operations teams and is part of the BCC teaching team. Kevin also served on staff at BCC as the Director of Operations from 2016-2017. Kevin’s APEST strengths are in shepherding and teaching.

Matt Fleck

Sunday Morning Teacher

Matt is married to Terri, they have 3 boys and 4 grandchildren. Matt is passionate about learning and teaching and has a heart for missions and living on mission. Matt has worked most of his career in the property development industry. Several years into his career, he followed God’s calling on his life and enrolled and graduated seminary and served as Executive Pastor for a local church for 12 years. He returned to the business industry and is currently working for a site development company. Matt enjoys fishing, endurance fitness, investing, and reading and volunteering in the local community.
