WHAT ARE ADVENTURE GROUPS

We WANT to be disciples who make disciples at BCC. That takes some intentionality on our part. An Adventure group is your first intentional step on that journey. The goal of an Adventure Group is to make sure, as you go on this adventure of disciple making, that your faith is built on the truth of who God is, how God interacts with us and how we respond to God on a daily basis.

We are on the Journey with You

WHAT TO EXPECT

A typical Adventure Group meets digitally using a secure Zoom number. No two groups are alike but they share a few things: there is no cost, we will use the four axioms as our common content, a pastoral facilitator will host each group, and everyone is invited to share and contribute to the group equally.

THE COMMITMENT

An Adventure Group is 4 weeks long. It will meet weekly and each session is 60 minutes.

EACH WEEK

Each week you will READ, LISTEN, and WATCH to prepare for the group session. You will need to devote around 45 minutes of time to do so.

GROUP SESSIONS

Group Sessions consist of a REVIEW, RECAP, and DISCUSSION. We briefly review where we have been, we recap by watching a teaching, and our facilitators will lead discussion. This discussion is probably the most important part of any Adventure Group. It is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

THE FOUR AXIOMS

GOD IS ALWAYS PRESENT AND AT WORK

God’s presence isn’t something we attain or achieve. He is already closer to us than we are to ourselves, and that simply never changes

GOD MEETS US IN REALITY

Therefore, in our spirituality it’s important to be “where we really are.” This means every moment is always the “right place” to meet our loving God. The primary context for meeting with this God who is present and at work is in our actual, everyday, ordinary lives.

GOD CARES MORE ABOUT IT THAN WE DO

If God is always present and at work, and if he’s working here and now in reality, right where we really are, even if we are unaware, half-hearted, or working at counter-purposes, then it follows that God cares more about it than we do.

THE GOAL OF DISCIPLESHIP IS DIVINE UNION

God desires to be in relationship with us and God is inviting us to participate with him as he is restoring all things.
